Day 1 & 2 - Holiday at Home 2010
35 of us started the day in Dublin for what promised to be an exciting and memorable holiday at home over the coming weekend. The following is an account of the first two days...
Day One – Dublin to Enniskillen
Our first stop was a visit to the historical Newgrange. It was for many and we weren’t disappointed. Our tour guide was excellent and gave an interesting account of what Newgrange could have been used for over 5,000 years ago. The man hours that must have gone into building Newgrange all that time ago is mind boggling.

We stopped off in Drogheda for a quick visit to St. Laurences Gate where local Senator James Carroll gave us a quick history lesson on the area. We stopped for lunch in Carrickmacross, where we strolled around the Market Square and soaked up the sun that had just burst through the clouds and ended the day in Enniskillen where we sampled the local nightlife.

Day Two – Enniskillen to Galway
We almost missed the bus after a late night. The sun came on the way to Strandhill. Speaking of which, the beach was incredible. The waves were coming in and the surfers were out in force as we walked along the water’s edge. We even got some nice pics with a surfer. I didn’t really want to leave Strandhill on such an amazing day but I knew there was more to be discovered.

We took a detour through Ballina for lunch and got a quick lesson in salmon fishing. We arrived into Galway that evening just in time to see a boat race by the Spanish Arch. I got some fish and chips in McDonaghs and took a stroll through Eyre square before getting ready to head out on the town.
Galway is shining beacon for Tourism on the West Coast. We met so many people from different cultures all descending on Galway to savour its famous culture. We met up that night for a pub crawl. Shop Street really does have some of the best Traditional pubs Ireland has to offer.

I eventually made it to bed in the wee hours after but not before the obligatory Galway Supermac’s.
It's on to Cork for Day 3...
