Ógra Fianna Fáil Holiday at Home campaign visits Carrickmacross
Fianna Fáil TD Rory O’Hanlon has welcomed the Ógra Fianna Fáil Holiday at Home campaign to Carrickmacross.
“Ógra launched a campaign to encourage people to holiday at home this year and made a stop in Carrick-on-Shannon to spread the word.”
“I was delighted to see such enthusiasm and energy from the Ógra members who visited and our local members who turned out to support the Holiday at Home campaign.”
“Tourist numbers dropped by 12% in 2009 and Fáilte Ireland estimate that this has meant a loss in revenue of €1billion to the country.”
“Over 200,000 people work in tourism around the country and this loss of revenue has had, and will have an impact on their jobs.”
“Rural economies are especially impacted by tourism and it is vital that every encouragement is given to people to holiday at home.”
“I was delighted to show the visiting Ógra group around Carrickmacross and we took in a visit to the Market Square.”
“It is the one of many stops on Ógra’s campaign but I was really encouraged by their enthusiasm for the campaign,” concluded Deputy O’Hanlon.
